In brief

How does a HitClash music tournament work?

HitClash turns your favourite music into a single-elimination tournament. The app generates brackets of 8, 16, 32 or 64 tracks from a catalogue covering millions of artists. In each round, two tracks face off and the user picks a favourite with a single tap; the loser is eliminated. A 32-track tournament runs for 5 rounds and ends in about 6 minutes of active listening. Once a champion is crowned, HitClash produces a shareable recap card for Instagram, X or TikTok, including the full bracket tree and a "closest match" stat (the round won by the slimmest margin). The app offers Genre modes — pop, hip-hop, rock, electronic, k-pop — to scope a universe, plus "For You" suggestions based on recent listening.

Why use HitClash instead of a regular playlist?

A Spotify or Apple Music playlist presents tracks linearly with no hierarchy: the user doesn't really know which titles they prefer among their last 50 plays. HitClash solves this by forcing a binary choice at every round, validated in cognitive psychology as the most reliable way to reveal a preference (forced-pairs method). At the end of a 32-track tournament, the user has made 31 comparisons, producing a ranking that is statistically more representative than a multi-choice poll. The format is also social: friends, Discord communities and YouTube channels can run the same bracket and compare winners. HitClash is free on iOS and Android, with no interstitial ads, and stores the last 100 tournaments locally for later comparison.
